Yvonne and Ron Downey sent Squeak out to B.C. to live with us on one condition -- we were to breed her to Titan, and they were to get first pick puppy back. We were totally delighted with the arrangement -- we were acquiring a nice young bitch for our breeding program, and they were hopefully going to get a nice puppy with a Salishan prefix to show and hunt in Ontario and in the Eastern U.S.
Well, Salishan Tally has totally lived up to and in fact exceeded all of our highest expectations. As a puppy, she was Best or Reserve Best in the Conformation ring numerous times. She also excelled at GTG and showed a tremendous aptitude towards natural earth work. As an adult, she has continued to bring home the blue ribbons in the Open Conformation Division and, in the meantime, Ron was making it his mission in life to earn an NHC with her. Unfortunately, circumstances thwarted her in the field over and over again, through no fault of her own, and Ron was getting frustrated. However, Tally was getting some great experience that would serve her well. Their perserverance paid off in the early part of 2003 when Tally successfully located and bolted a large red fox and acquired her first Natural Field Working Certificate. A job well done. So, this spring we were surprised and pleased to have Tally offered back to us -- for safe keeping. The Downeys are making some lifestyle changes, making a move out to the West Coast to be closer to their son & his family, and wanting to downsize things in the meantime. That meant placing some terriers, and they thought perhaps we’d like to have a nice Titan daughter back under our roof. They thought right! So Tally is now living here with us, her mother Squeak, and her sister Flick’s puppy Moth. We are thrilled to have her, and she fits right in just like her mother -- never causes a problem. Now we are just anxiously awaiting the arrival of the rest of her family - hurry up Ron & Yvonne ! |
